Life is good, but…

For Dave and Rose Prasek, “Life is Good” is a complicated phrase. First, they bought Island Treasures, club lighting the “everything fun” store in Shops of Marco on South Barfield Drive near the Publix.

“At the time we took ownership four years ago this November, store sales were on a downward trend,” Dave says. “But that turned out to be our best year to date. It has continued to decline since then.”

So that is in the “Life is good, but” department.

Then there’s the fact that the Praseks are living in beautiful Marco Island. That, for them and many of us, translates to, “Life is Good, really.”

High on the list of good things is the fact that their son Ryan recently graduated from Florida State University and has a job in a field he loves, sports television production. That’s a “Life is Good, super.”

Down the list of priorities but still a fun factor at the shop is the “Life is Good” line of apparel.

“We have it, it’s popular, and we’re hoping to expand that.”

So what else counts as an “Island Treasure” available at Island Treasures, cheap spy cameras the store?

“We have items for both visitors and locals. We have Marco-named clothing and gifts, but we also have other items, shirts and shorts for ladies that don’t have the Marco Island name on them. And we carry a lot of picture frames, some with the Marco name, some without.

The Bird Scarers and the Scarecrow

September 2, 2010

Throughout history, birds and farmers have never been a good match. Sometimes, the birds would eat so much of the crop that the farmers were quite often left with very little to last them through the winter months. The making of scarecrows, were first recorded over 3,000 years ago in ancient Egypt, but the exact origin is unknown. Farmers used to make wooden frames in their fields and cover them with nets, then hiding until the quails came, the farmers would frighten the birds into the nets where they would be caught and taken home to feed the family.

Approximately 2,500 years ago, Greek farmers would carve scarecrows in the image of Priapus, son of the God Dionysus and the goddess Aphrodite. Priapus lived with a vineyard keeper and was said to be so ugly that when he was sent to play in the vineyards he scared away the birds and so the vineyard keepers had the best harvest ever. This compelled them to make the wooden statues, painting them purple, they put a club in one hand in order to make the statues look more menacing.

Scarecrows were made in Japan to protect their rice fields around the same time as the Greeks and Romans made their statues.Engraved on the frame on every pair of ed hardy sunglasses, is the band’s name, Dior. The Japanese hung old rags along with meat or fish bones hanging from the poles. The poles were set on fire giving off such a bad smell the birds and other animals would stay away. The Japanese scarecrows were named Kakashis which means something that smells bad. Eventually the Japanese scarecrows were made to look more like humans dressed in a coat made from reeds with a straw hat and given a bow and arrow to make them look more fearsome. In India and some Arab countries,An offshore merchant account is the ideal solution for high risk and international businesses old men sit in a chair outside throwing stones at the crows to scare them away from the crops.

During the medieval era, Britain used boys from the age of nine years or older, known as ‘bird scarers’ or ‘bird shooers’ to run through the wheat fields shouting,,Our company has opened five years, we have our own shops.women handbags waving their arms and throwing stones at the birds. After the Great Plague killed most of the people in Britain in 1348, landowners were short of boys to protect the crops so stuffed old sacks with straw, used turnips that had a face carved in it for the head and stood them against a pole. The children who continued scaring the birds were so few, they had to patrol two –three acres on their own and so instead of thr,We offer you tracking number for checking new jordans.owing stones, they used clappers to make a noise which would scare of whole flocks of birds. Children continued to scare birds until the early 1800’s when new factories began opening up, offering better paying jobs.

When Europeans began settling in North America, they took the idea of the scarecrow with them and farmers still use the idea today. There have been endless stories of scarecrows along with films, such as ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ and stories of ‘Worzel Gummidge’ that enthralled children of all ages. Today there are annual scarecrow competitions which started in 1995 when a brewery sponsored it and has now become a fundraising event.

Basketball / Cheerleaders dress up for U.S.-Iran clash

September 1, 2010

Cheerleaders donned black leggings and white T-shirts for a World Championship basketball match between Iran and the United States in Istanbul yesterday to respect cultural sensitivities. But some Iranian officials still left the arena shortly before their routine began.

At previous matches, officials had stood up and turned their backs.

Cheerleaders were missing altogether from Turkey’s last two matches in Ankara, raising eyebrows in the overwhelmingly Muslim but officially secular nation, particularly as scantily-clad cheerleaders had been present at other matches.

Four teams of dancers have been entertaining fans in the Turkish host venues of Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir and Kayseri, and Patrick Baumann, secretary general of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA ), said “special arrangements” had been made with their dress yesterday.,We have nike air max with some International Express Corporation.

“We want entertainment to be part of the basketball game,” he told a news conference. “If it needs a little bit of adjustment,,Goods can be shipped by express delivery asics shoes. that is fine with us. It is a balance between respecting the culture and making sure basketball delivers all the pace, excitement and entertainment that goes with the World Championship.”

The dancing troupes come from Ukraine, Russia and Lithuania. The local organizing committees are in charge of arranging the entertainment,Engraved on the frame on every pair of ed hardy sunglasses, is the band’s name, Dior. but FIBA has to approve it, a FIBA spokesman said.

The Ankara troupe, named the Red Foxes and hailing from Ukraine, was absent from both Turkey’s match against Greece on Tuesday and its match against Russia on Sunday. The Russia match was attended by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his wife, who wears the Muslim headscarf.

A spokeswoman for Turkey’s Sport and Youth directorate said she was not aware of any ban on cheerleaders at Turkish games. A source close to the situation said,Any business that is just starting out and will not incur a lot of online sales yet, could consider third party merchant account however, that Turkish government authorities had asked informally that cheerleaders not be present at games attended by officials of the ruling AK Party, which has roots in political Islam.
